Black Tern

The Black Tern is a small tern of freshwater marshes and its range pretty much covers all of the U.S. (except for some of the Pacific Northwest).

Appearance

The adult is a small dark tern.

Lifestyle

It summers and migrates through marshes, eats insects, has nests on the water, and it feeds by doing a spectacular aerial dive.

Call

Its call is a short "kik" that is almost gull like.
